What is Momentum?
Momentum is Republic Polytechnic’s Dance Festival.
Momentum aims at promoting dance as a form of expression as well as showcasing the best dance talents to be found in schools and institutions of higher learning in Singapore.

What is Momentum 2011 all about?
In its 4th year with the theme of 'Emotions in Motion', Momentum 2011 looks forward at expanding its purpose, program and partners. Billed as being youthful, vibrant and daring, the week-long Momentum 2011 resonates with the feelings of today’s youth and celebrates the love and appreciation for dance – from the traditional to the contemporary.
What events/activities are held during the festival?
A total of 8 events will take place during the festival – Momentum 2011 Launch is followed by a string of fringe events – LEAPS! A student choreographers’ showcase, film screenings, workshops, mass dance workout sessions, traditional dance concert and a dance dialogue. The exciting program culminates in the Showcase – a kaleidoscope of interesting and eclectic dance pieces guaranteed to evoke diverse feelings in the audience.

Are the events free or ticketed?
All events are free except for the Main Showcase (27 and 28 May) which is ticketed at S$10. Some of the free events require registration due to limited seating capacity.
Are the shows different or the same for 27 and 28 May?
Both shows are the same for 27 and 28 May.
Are there any discounts, promotions or student concessions?
No. Tickets for the Main Showcase is at a standard $10 (inclusive of GST).
I am an RP student. Do I have to pay?
Yes.

What time should I arrive for the workshop/workout/dialogue/performance?
Kindly arrive at least 15 minutes before the performance starts.
Are infants allowed into the venue?
We do not encourage infants or children below 6 years old to enter the venues. In the event the public insists on bringing their children/infants along, the children/infants (even those in arms or pram) are required to purchase another ticket. Please note that there is no child discount for tickets.

All other events are Free.

   * Payment mode: NETS and Internet Banking

* NOTE: Sales of tickets are subjected to its availability.

Is there any refund allowed (for tickets bought by patrons)?
Tickets sold cannot be exchanged or refunded under any circumstances except in the event that the performance is cancelled before its scheduled performance time.

Can schools purchase tickets in bulk?

Are there any discounts for bulk purchase?
No.
What are the modes of payment?
For schools order, the schools can choose to pay via GIRO or cheque.

Momentum Launch

Momentum 2011 kicks off with a high! Keep up with HipHop, Salsa and Latin beats with Hip Hop dance crews Luminiq, Flair Brothers and Fantastic 4, RP Social Dance (Salsa) and Latin dance by RP Latin Dancesport.

LEAPS!

A FIRST! A dance concert choreographed by our very own RP student dancers, selected from Create Interest Groups – Modern dance, Capoeira, Wushu, HipHop. The 6 dancers were mentored by TRCC’s assistant director Zaini Tahir, after undergoing intense training sessions. Find out the inspiration behind the choreography at the post-performance talk.

Film Screening

For the For the movie-goers, 12 dance films are lined-up for Momentum 2011. Watch TRCC’s past dance productions such as Momentum, Muse, Moksha Mudra and Tango Project. Other films to be screened includes blockbuster hits such as Step Up and Shall We Dance? .

Dance Workout

New in Momentum, the Dance Workout series runs for 3 sessions, each comprising an hour of mass exercise fusing music and movement. At an introductory level, the workouts aim to be the stepping stone for one to be involved in dance. Strengthen co-ordination skills by executing moves from Hip Hop Kickboxing and Capoeira.

Dance Workshop

The Dance Workshop series aims to promote greater appreciation in the respective dance genres. Conducted at an Intermediate level, student dancers are encouraged to attend. Bollywood, Modern Dance, B-boy and Malay Dance will be conducted by renowned dance instructors.
